Privacy policy

1. Who we are

yourlocalhero (ABN 39 358 576 562) makes Wayfinder, a recommender that solar installers add to their own websites. We also run a free guide for homeowners at yourlocalhero.com.au/guide.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This is a short notice that covers what the site does today. A full policy is coming.

2. What this policy covers

This website, yourlocalhero.com.au: the home page, the demo page, the homeowners’ guide at /guide, and Wayfinder when it runs on an installer’s website.

3. What we collect

From installers

Nothing through the website. The book-a-demo form doesn’t send anything: it opens an email to us in your own email app, and we get what you choose to send, like any email.

From households using Wayfinder

Nothing personal. Your answers to the six questions are worked out in your browser and aren’t sent to us or stored.

On the homeowners’ guide

• If you unlock your full report: your first name, last name and email address.
• If you answer the optional price survey: your answer and any comment you add.

From everyone who visits

• How the site is used, through PostHog analytics: which pages and steps are viewed and which buttons are pressed. On the guide, once you unlock a report, your email address is linked to that activity.
• The details any website receives with each request, such as your IP address and browser type.

4. How we use it

• To email you your report and the occasional updates you agreed to. You can unsubscribe from any of those emails.
• To see which parts of the site are useful and improve them.
• To reply when you email us, for example about a demo.

We don’t sell personal information or use it for advertising.

5. Who we share it with

Only the services that run the site for us:

• Resend stores the guide’s contacts (name and email) and sends the guide’s emails.
• PostHog receives the analytics described above, including your email address and survey answers on the guide.
• Google Fonts supplies the typeface that Wayfinder and the guide load, so your browser asks Google’s servers for it, which shares your IP address and browser details with Google.
• Render hosts the website.

These services are based in the United States, so this information is stored and handled outside Australia. Nothing from this website is passed to installers.

6. Storage and retention

We don’t keep a database of our own. Guide contacts stay in Resend until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Analytics stay in PostHog until we delete them, and we’ll delete yours if you ask. Emails you send us stay in our inbox.

7. Access and correction

To see, correct or delete the details we hold about you, email us and we’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, tell us first. If we can’t fix it, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
